After I saw that others had added Electric Assist Power Steering (EAPS)
to their Factory Five Racing cars, I decided to do the same to my coupe
in order to lower the high steering effort caused by 12 inch plus wide
tires and fast-ratio rack-and-pinion steering (15:1 not the 20:1 standard).
A
Flaming River EAPS
kit was used along with their high quality U joints
and steering shaft adapters (3/4 inch round to 3/4 inch DD shaft) as illustrated
in the above image. The set screws extend into the round shaft and the adapter
was also welded to the shaft.
The above image shows the all the shaft couplings, EAPS motor, and bracket for the motor.
The above image shows two added heat shields. One is for the EAPS module
(lower left) and the second for the wiring above the exhaust headers. A re-
settable circuit breaker was added inside the car to completely disconnect
the EAPS if ever needed.
This kit has an inside the car control to adjust power assist from low
to high, or off.
Flaming River kit has a speed sensor option that reduces power assist
power as driving speed increases; not yet installed.
First road test experience, now makes driving a pleasure; should have
done a long time ago; assist set to lowest power.

Autocross is now possible with EAPS; will give that more thought. ~George
