Accotink lake is on the Accotink Creek between Alexandria and Manassas Virginia. The Southern, now NS, trestle is at the base of Accotink lake dam. The trestle is locate in the Northern Virginia Accotink public park and is an ideal spot to take pictures of trains passing above. If you look at the bottom of the trestle, you will see the foundations of a previous trestle built long before the current trestle. Also, near this trestle I have found very small spikes, probably from the Civil War era when the tracks were on an older railroad bed a short distance from the current bed. |
