Railroads have many structures that supported their many functions.
Structures such as roundhouses/turntables provide for a host of
capabilites. We have endeavored to detail selected sites of interest
in the above case studies. The primary researhers are listed with
their contact information should you have additional information or
need additional information.

Rapid City South Dakota
This small roundhouse is in great condition and is no longer used as a
railroad facility. However, it still retains its railroad character. (Primary - Steve Shivers)

This small roundhouse is in great condition and is no longer used as a

Galveston Texas
Galveston Texas has had at least three roundhouses.
The three locations we have are all with in a couple of miles of each. All are gone now. Foundations
still are visible for two of the three roundhouses. (Primary - Fred Swan)

Alexandria Virginia
In the late 1960's and later the Southern Alexandria roundhouse was used by a
lumber company to store lumber. The turntable pit had been filled in and the
turntable long gone. (Primary - Robert G. Clark)

Maydelle Texas
This turntable was only installed here as an attraction of the TSRR excursion train.
The turntable was originally located in Paris, Texas. It is still used from time to
time to turn the steam engines during short school field trip rides during the spring and fall.

Glidden, TX is basically near Columbus, Texas between San Antonio and Houston.

SanAntonio Texas
This turntable still stands today. It was the sight of the worst
boiler explosion inn US history which happened
in 1912.
