These pictures were taken at the beginning of Amtrak's existence. One rainy day, I went to Southern's Alexandria Virginia Station to take some pictures when a B&O carbody pulled up. I had only seen Southern Passenger trains stop there so with a little smile I asked the engineer if he was lost. He laughed and said this train was part of the newly formed National AMTRAK passenger service. He went on to say they had equipment from many different roads and had not had the time to repainted or put on the AMTRAK insignia yet. That day I was made a little more informed.
